Bowen Therapy
The WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHERE, WHY’s of Bowen Therapy
WHO should get Bowen?
There is no one who cannot be treated safely with Bowen; it is so gentle. Bowen moves signals our body to:
o Facilitate lymphatic drainage of toxins and waste
o Promote good circulation
o Release tension
o Increase mobility
o Relieve pain (acute and chronic pain, headaches and migraines, frozen shoulder, lower back pain, sciatica, etc.)
WHAT would I expect during the treatment?
A gentle rolling motion over the belly of a muscle, a tendon and sometimes a neurovascular bundle. These moves are done on various parts of the body according to protocols that are indicated for the individual patient.
WHEN should I come back for my next visit?
A Bowen treatment should be done once a week for a set amount of time decided by your practitioner. You should not have more than one treatment a week, this allows your body the time to integrate the messages the Bowen treatment has given it.
WHERE are Bowen moves done on the body?
The move is done on specific parts of the body but its effects are felt throughout the entire body. This is because Bowen works by acting on balancing the autonomic nervous system. The autonomic nervous system controls over 80% of bodily functions (cardiac, respiratory, peripheral circulation, reproductive, endocrine, gastrointestinal) and is very susceptible to stress and emotional tensions. The Bowen Technique shifts the client from sympathetic state (Fight or Flight) to parasympathetic state (rest and relax). It is only in this state that healing can take place.
WHY and HOW does Bowen Work?
Bowen is a gentle modality that uses various Bowen moves to focus the body to areas that need attention. The moves send neurological signals to the brain resulting in immediate responses of muscle relaxation and pain reduction. Electrical impulses sent to the nervous system remind the body to regain normal movement in joints, muscles and tendons. This deeply relaxing technique assists your body in letting go of held patterns of pain.
